Trip to Peru – Day 3
Today was business. We went and talked to Segundo, the man that was in charge of the association that was helping get the land. We went out to the job site to see the land, and it looks like it will be a very nice place to build. We talked to various building supply people, a contractor or two, and an engineer that can help with the utilities.
For lunch, we had Seviche de Maro. I had heard that it was a traditional plate, so we got some. Turns out its raw fish. Crap. Well, it was actually pretty good. Lots of lime and served with a good hot pepper, I was able to eat. Although nervous of getting sick, I never did (knock on wood).
Housing here is interesting. The walls are almost exclusively block with a mortar coating. Roofs are concrete or nothing. Ventilation is one of the priorities in Peruvian home building, so we are going to need to take that into account when designing our domes. The newer subdivisions are the same kind of housing, but they have much better infrastructure.
We took a long walk last night, saw a lot more of the town. Were only nervous a few times, including the solicitation by the three people. (sex of these people was never determined)
By the way, its summer here, so I got a nice sun burn today.
